MEMORIAL SERVICE VIDEO FOR DR TERRANCE D NEWTON

Obituary for Dr Terrance D Newton Sr

HIS LEGACY

Dr. Terrance D. Newton, Sr., affectionately known as "Newt", was born on November 22, 1974, in Wilmington, Delaware. He received his heavenly wings on March 21, 2022, while in the Christiana Care Hospital, surrounded by his family. Dr. Newton was the son of the late Marie Newton-Hammond and Earl Exum, Jr., and also caringly raised by Emil "Truck" Hammond.

Dr. Newton received his education in the Wilmington Public Schools, graduating in 1993 from Hodgson Vocational Technical High School, where he served as co-captain of the football team. In the fall of 1995, Dr. Newton attended Delaware State University (DSU), majoring in Criminal Justice. At DSU, he had the opportunity to showcase his athletic ability on the football field. After receiving his bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, he pursued a master's degree in Special Education to follow his dream of impacting children that needed these additional services in the community where he grew up. While attending Grad school, Dr. Newton began his journey into membership of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated in Spring 2003 and was closely affiliated with Dover Alumni Chapter and Wilmington Alumni Chapter as the Ace (#1) of Murphi’s Law Line. Amongst his chapter brothers, he was affectionately known as Lord Farkward. In true "Newt" style, getting a Master's degree just wasn't enough; he returned to his Alma Mater in 2008 and took on the lofty goal of becoming a Doctor of Educational Leadership. Dr. Newton was also an active member of The Monday Club, the oldest African-American social organization in Delaware and the nation.

In 2016, Dr. Newton was united in holy matrimony to Paula Dumpson-Newton. With this union, he and Paula shared a beautiful family of four children; Terrance Jr., Dajah, Troy, and Torien. Dr. Newton also opened his heart to be called Dad by Jonai Grant, Twannaja Money and Shanaia Jones.

Dr. Newton accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age. He is a member of Ezion Fair Baptist Church and was not ashamed to talk about his faith. He prayed every day and it was not uncommon to hear him playing gospel music as it brought him comfort in times of unease.

Dr. Newton managed to make every person he encountered feel like they mattered. It wasn't a façade; he genuinely cared about every person he met. To know him was to love him. His laugh, his smile, his voice - was infectious. You could always find him dancing, singing, going for a ride on his motorcycle, cooking, smoking his cigars, watching his favorite television show Sanford and Son, or telling a story. (We know he can tell a story). He loved to share stories about his challenging childhood, from facing adversity and surviving in the Eastside streets of Wilmington, Delaware, to how his resilience and determination helped him grow into the man we all have grown to love.

Dr. Newton at a young age, developed a love for sports, particularly football. He was one of the first members of the "Stay REAL Camp". Stay Real camp assists with developing the importance of education and the mental and physical aspects of being a student-athlete. As an avid sports fan, he enjoyed watching his beloved San Francisco 49ers and favorite basketball team, the Miami Heat.

Professionally, Dr. Newton was a fearless leader, mentor, teacher, coach, and everybody's biggest cheerleader. He started his career at William Penn High School as a Teacher and then at Thomas A. Edison Charter School as a Special Education Teacher, where he was later promoted to an Administrator Behavior Coordinator. Dr. Newton also served as an Assistant Principal at Kingswood Academy Alternative School and an Assistant Principal of the Turn-Around Schools at Universal Charter School in PA. Dr. Newton continued his career becoming Dean of Students at Sarah Webb Pyle Academy and later as the Assistant Principal at H.B. DuPont Middle School. For a brief period, he worked as the Assistant Principal at Skyline Middle School until he was appointed Principal at Warner Elementary School by the Red Clay School District.

He was passionate about what he did, and he did it every day with purpose and intention. He was more than just hope for his students; he was a promise. A promise that every one of them could do or be anything they wanted to be, as long as they were willing to put in the work. He felt the students needed someone to believe in them. For Dr. Newton, every day was a fresh start, and it did not matter what a student did the day before; every day started with a hug and a clean slate.

He never stopped working for his babies. That is what he called his students – his babies. His job did not exist between the school bells but rather extended into the communities and homes of the students whose lives he touched. There was nothing he would not do to ensure that his students had what they needed to thrive. He humanized the business of education because he understood that for students to learn and achieve success, they needed love and support beyond the walls of the school building.

Dr. Newton connected people. He was that person who had a guy for everything. Your car broke down, and you needed a ride to work? He found you a ride. Car troubles? Plumbing problems? He knew someone who could help. Dr. Newton was an inspiration to so many. He was larger than life. We must believe that God has a higher purpose for him and continue to do what he started. His candle may have blown out, but he ignited a flame that will endure forever in his name.

Dr. Newton was predeceased by his parents, Marie & Emil Hammond, and Earl Exum, Jr., Grandmothers, Patricia Scales (Sims), Ethel & Clay Newton, Sr., Mother-in-Law, Denise Dumpson, Uncle, Keeno Exum, Favorite Cousin, Troy Stafford, Brothers, Sean Hammond, Sr., Jamar" Kolb" Kilgoe, and Nate "Ma5e" Mangrum.

Fond memories of Dr. Newton will be cherished by his loving and devoted wife, Paula Dumpson-Newton, four children; Terrance Newton, Jr. (Tymirra), Dajah Dumpson, Troy Newton, and Torien Newton, and four grandchildren; Ty'Mirr Rollins, Thaddeus Newton, Tillie Newton, and Troi Newton, sisters; Latasha "Kizzey" Newton (Shantia), Keenyeta, Marketta, Akira, and Chanel Exum, sister-in-laws; Donise Dumpson, Monise Dumpson, and Karen Dumpson; brothers Emil Watson, Robert Hammond, Ross Mason, Hakeem Hammond, Jameel Mickens, Tyrell Hammond, and Kareem Mickens, Grandfather, Earl Exum, Sr., his father-in-law, Paul Dumpson Jr. (Pops), Aunts; Natalie Scales-Lopez, Sharon Smith-Walton, Margaret Hammond and Mary Newton; Uncles, Clay Newton, Jr. (Josephine), Mark Newton, Marvin Newton (Lori), Kevin Newton, Keith Patterson, Vincent Patterson, Rick Exum and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

George Floyd

Obituary

By Legacy Staff

George Floyd, a resident of St. Louis Park, Minnesota, died Monday, May 25, 2020 at the age of 46 while in the custody of Minneapolis police officers, which sparked nationwide protests against police brutality. He was born in Fayetteville, North Carolina, and grew up in Houston, Texas. At the time of his death, he worked as a security guard at Conga Latin Bistro.

Arrangements for funeral services in Houston are being made by Fort Bend Memorial Planning Center, which has announced a public visitation will be held Monday, June 8 from noon to 6 p.m. at the Fountain of Praise, 13950 Hillcroft Ave. A private funeral will follow on June 9.

The Minneapolis Spokesman-Recorder reports that a public Minneapolis memorial service will be held Thursday, June 4, from 1 to 3 p.m. at North Central University, 1400 Elliot Avenue. In addition, the Fayetteville Observer reports that a public North Carolina memorial service will be held Saturday, June 6 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Cape Fear Conference B Headquarters, 10225 Fayetteville Road, Raeford.

Floyd's uncle Selwyn Jones told the Rapid City Journal that Floyd is survived by three children, and that the six-foot-seven "gentle giant" had been a star football and basketball player in high school.

"He was everyone's favorite everything," his cousin Tera Brown told TMX.news.

Floyd was a longtime friend of NBA champion basketball player and ESPN analyst Stephen Jackson.

"Floyd was my brother, we called each other twin," Jackson said in an Instagram post on May 26. In another, Jackson said: "If he needed me, I was there for him… I think he was closer to me than some of my own family."

Floyd's partner Courteney Ross told KARE-11 News in Minneapolis: "He was not only the man I loved, but the man I admired. He taught me how to be a better person."

His childhood friend Christopher Harris told NPR: "If he had a stamp and it had his signature on it, it would be his smile. It literally lit up a room."

"I want people to know that George Floyd was a caring person," his Yates High School football and basketball teammate Jonathan Veal told KWTX News 10 in Texas. "His personality and his heart for others was equal or greater to his physical stature, and he always had a heart to give back."

Floyd is also being mourned by friends from Houston's hip-hop scene. "He believed in people," rapper Trae the Truth told Rolling Stone, "to a point it seemed he believed in people more than he even believed in himself."

"Everybody loved Floyd," his employer Jovanni Thunstrom of Conga Latin Bistro told KARE-11. "We all have good memories of him."

The Life of Congressman John Lewis

A great American life

Lewis was one of the original 13 Freedom Riders, and he was chairman of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) from 1963 to 1966. Lewis was one of the primary organizers of the 1963 March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom alongside Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., as well as the youngest speaker to address the March’s crowd. Two years later, he led the famous 1965 march across the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Alabama. First elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1986, Lewis represented Georgia’s 5th District, encompassing much of Atlanta and some of its suburbs, for 17 terms.

“It is with inconsolable grief and enduring sadness that we announce the passing of U.S. Rep. John Lewis,” his family’s statement said. “He was honored and respected as the conscience of the US Congress and an icon of American history, but we knew him as a loving father and brother. He was a stalwart champion in the on-going struggle to demand respect for the dignity and worth of every human being.  He dedicated his entire life to non-violent activism and was an outspoken advocate in the struggle for equal justice in America.  He will be deeply missed.”

SELMA MARCH
“Bloody Sunday” march across Edmund Pettus Bridge

Among Lewis’ most notable moments as a leader of the civil rights movement was the “Bloody Sunday” march across Edmund Pettus Bridge. Intended to be a march from Selma to the Alabama state capitol of Montgomery, the march was cut short when the marchers were met on the far side of the bridge by state troopers and a posse of civilians who had been hastily deputized by the County Sheriff in order to stop the marchers. Ordered to disperse, the marchers stood their ground and began to pray. The troopers and their posse attacked, first with tear gas and then with violence. Lewis was one of the marchers who was severely beaten, receiving a fractured skull and scars that would stay with him all his life. It wasn’t the first time Lewis had been injured in the pursuit of equal rights; as a Freedom Rider, he was beaten more than once by angry civilians who felt threatened by his peaceful attempt to integrate public transportation.

Career in Congress

Lewis was unique among the major leaders of the civil rights movement as the only one to go on to a career in national politics. He was one of the most liberal congressmen to represent a Deep South district, and over the course of 17 elections, he only once got less than 70 percent of the vote – when he received 69 percent in 1994. He was Senior Chief Deputy Whip and served on the Committee on Ways and Means. Among the successful legislation he sponsored was the bill establishing the National Museum of African American History and Culture.

“March”

Beginning in 2013, Lewis cowrote the graphic novel series “March,” telling the story of the Civil Rights Movement through his own experiences. Written with Andrew Aydin and illustrated by Nate Powell, the series brought history to young readers. The “March” series was widely honored, including a National Book Award for Young People’s Literature for “March: Book Three.” It was the first graphic novel to win a National Book Award, and Lewis was the first member of Congress to write a graphic novel.

Lewis’ encouraging words on justice

“Do not get lost in a sea of despair. Be hopeful, be optimistic. Our struggle is not the struggle of a day, a week, a month, or a year, it is the struggle of a lifetime. Never, ever be afraid to make some noise and get in good trouble, necessary trouble.” —@repjohnlewis on Twitter, 2018

Flora P. Bumbrey "Ms Shorty"

Obituary

Flora Pearl Bumbrey, was born to Lola Mae Copeland and James Breelove, March 3, 1948, in Bainbridge, Georgia.  At the age of 70 she departed this life on December 4, 2018, surrounded by her family at the Christiana Hospital in Newark, Delaware.

She moved to Delaware as a toddler, and at the age of 5, she went to live with her aunt and uncle, Laura and Charles “Bud” Davis, who loved and raised her as their own little girl.

Shorty (or Ms. Shorty) as she was affectionately called by family and friends, received her early education in the Wilmington public school system and graduated from P.S. Dupont High School.  She worked for the State of Delaware for many years performing hearing tests on children, and then moved to the Northeast State Service Center where she retired due to health reasons.

As a child she went to Mt. Enon Baptist Church and was baptized by the Rev. Dr. D. D. Seabrook and she also sang on the choir. She later joined the Mother Church of God in Christ under Pastor Ross B. Rainey, where she was known as a Mary Dee singer and traveled up and down the East Coast singing with the Mary Dees.

Her favorite daily activity was shopping at any thrift store, like, Catholic Charities, Goodwill, Salvation Army, just to name a few. She loved meeting people there and showing them the best deals. She truly knew how to find a bargain and she shared them with everyone she knew.  Her car was always loaded and still is today with a gift for someone in the family or a friend and she would say, “if you can’t use it then give it to someone who can.” She gave gifts all year long. To Shorty Christmas was every day.

Shorty had a stunning, unique style of dress. She dressed like she had millions, wearing furs, but was always classy.  She instilled in her son a love for clothes and to take pride in his everyday dress.  She would smile to see him following in her footsteps being known as a sharp dresser.

Shorty liked to plant flowers in her yard or you could find her painting something around the house on 27th Street, sidewalks, steps, shutters, walls. Her house as well as Shorty made 27th Street come alive. Everyone hung out in the basement of 924. She also really loved watching Westerns; her favorite TV station was on Xfinity160.

Shorty over the years opened her doors to many in their time of need. She also helped raise her granddaughter, Jasmine "Jas" Patton, as a daughter.  She enjoyed seeing all her grandchildren and great-grands who affectionately called her “Nana.”  She would check them out on facebook to see what they were up to. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her fathers, James Breelove and Charles “Uncle Bud” Davis, and a sister, Marion Copeland.

He obtained a Master of Arts in Criminal Justice (Parkwood University), a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice, and an Associates of Arts in Business Administration (American Intercontinental University).

In 1985, Trace began his professional career at the Department of Corrections as a Staff Training Relief Officer. During his tenure, he displayed a commitment to his profession by having over 20 years of perfect attendance and completing several certificate training programs. He excelled in defensive tactics, fugitive apprehension, and sharpshooting, to name a few of his accomplishments. Trace’s colleagues knew him most for his leadership abilities, integrity, and ethical standards. He worked his way up to Correctional Captain and retired after dedicating 30 years to his profession.

Upon retiring from the Department of Corrections, he moved to Florida to be closer to his daughter (Shonda) and granddaughter (Morgan). He remained in the workforce providing security for Brink’s armored cars and JaxPort Authority and ultimately became a professional driver for Cowan Systems, with whom he was employed at the time of his untimely passing.

Trace lived his life to the fullest. He was a free spirit and a man of many talents and interests. He really enjoyed being an active member of social groups. In October 2012 he became a Freemason and was raised to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason on March 30, 2013. Trace also loved sports cars and motorcycles and enjoyed riding his motorcycle as a member of the Ruff &Ready Motorcycle Club.
An avid Pittsburgh Steeler Fan, he enjoyed watching football, attending football games and tailgating parties. Some of Trace’s favorite pastimes were: playing chess, bowling, drawing, throwing horseshoes, and learning the Spanish language.

In the words of one of his close friends, he was “a passionate, positive and intelligent man.” He was a beautiful soul with a big heart and an even bigger smile who gave generously of his time and attention, leaving his mark on everyone that he met.

In addition to his parents, Trace was predeceased by his brother, Jessie Waller, Sr., and his sister, Annette V. Earl; He leaves to cherish his memories, son, Trace M. Waller, Jr. of Newark, Delaware; daughters Dr. Shonda Waller of Green Cove Springs, Florida; Tyra Webster of Newark, Delaware, and Janee Shantelle of Newark, Delaware; grandchildren Morgan Watts, Dez’lynn and Daks Smith; brother, Warren Waller, Jr., (Marvia); sisters, Deaconess Mary Benjamin, Elder Donnie Patrick, Gladys Lockhart, and Sandra Waller; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and devoted friends

Never forgetting your Loved One

Memorialising your Loved One

Life celebration activities can also revolve around an activity that will memorialise the family member, friend or loved one who has passed. This may be planting a tree, a grove or a garden in memory of the loved one; a beautiful rose grove or arbour can be a lasting memory of someone who love the softer, more gentle things in life or who loved the wonder of life. These places can then become special locations for those who want to visit and remember the loved one, years on from when they passed. Celebrating the life that has ended through planting and fostering new life and growth is something that is incredibly healing and soothing.

For those who loved to ‘think big’ or loved astrology, dedicating a star to your loved one may be a wonderful and permanent reminder of them. There are many companies who offer packages that include a certificate that a particular star has been dedicated to your loved one, with a date, the coordinates of the star and your loved one’s name. In celebrating a life in this way, you can gather family and friends for a meal or refreshments and view the dedicated star after the sun has set.

A simpler, but very personal and meaningful idea to celebrate a life is gathering family and friends and asking guests to write their favourite memories of the loved one who has passed on cards or in a memorial book. These can then be

The Five Stages of Grief

The five stages of grief: denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance.

If you’ve ever read or talked to someone about grieving and loss, you likely have heard of the Five Stages of Grief. This is an idea that people refer to when they talk about the way people often progress through the experience the grief cycle, from the first news of a loss through a wide range of emotional changes.

Psychiatrist Elisabeth Kübler-Ross developed the Five Stages of Grief and introduced them in her 1969 book “On Death and Dying,” then later refined them further with her coauthor David Kessler. The five stages of grief were originally used specifically to talk about the way a person tends to react to news of a terminal illness. But they’ve come to be recognized as a normal part of grieving when talking about all kinds of loss, including death and dying.

7 sTAGES OF GRIEF

A newer model offers seven stages of grief, adding some key emotions that are not included in Kubler-Ross’ work. The Seven Stages of Grief begins with shock and disbelief, and it also adds guilt, neither of which is included in the five stages. The full Seven Stages of Grief proceeds: shock and disbelief, denial, anger, bargaining, guilt, depression, acceptance. Other models offer four stages of grief (reeling, feelings, dealing, healing) and six stages of grief (shock, denial, anger, bargaining, depression, acceptance).

If you’ve ever been through a loss, or observed a friend who was grieving, you probably recognize the overwhelming emotions described in these stages. But you might also be thinking that the grief you’ve experienced wasn’t quite that tidy. The truth is that grief does not always follow any specific timeline and that people grieve differently. As David Kessler of Grief.com points out, one person might move straight from denial to depression; another person might skip denial altogether.

If you were to draw a picture of your journey through grief, it would be unlikely to look like a straight line progressing through the stages of loss. In reality, it might look more a tangle as you progressed from denial to acceptance to bargaining, back to denial, on to anger and depression, and so on. You might also find yourself “stuck” in one of the stages.

Perhaps your anger or your depression is persistent, and you can’t seem to move past it. This is as normal as it is to bounce between the stages out of the order that Kubler-Ross created — though it certainly doesn’t feel good, and it’s something you can work through with the help of a therapist or health professional.

Understanding Grief

So the Five Stages of Grief aren’t intended to tell us exactly how our grief will go. Instead, the idea of the stages is to help us make sense of the emotions and impulses that are commonly felt during the grief process. If you’re still feeling anger months after a loss, you shouldn’t feel like there’s something wrong with you and you must progress to bargaining right away.

The framework of the five stages isn’t telling you what to do — it’s just giving you language to help you understand what’s happening in your head and your heart as you go through the grieving process.

Whether you’re just beginning your grief journey, or you’re “stuck” in depression, or you’ve proceeded through all five (or seven) stages and back again, you don’t have to go through your grief alone. You can turn to others who have gone through a loss for support and commiseration, and you can talk to a professional grief therapist for help with moving through your grief.

A grief support group is something you can attend online and/or in person — you can often find local grief support groups through a hospital or hospice. They may also be able to help you find a grief counselor or therapist. And you don’t have to choose one form of support if you’re feeling overwhelmed — you can attend a grief support group in your town, visit a grief counselor, and check in on an online support group, if you find that all three help you.

Other Grief Models

Obituary

"HER GRACE"

BISHOP EMMA LORETTA CURRY CREAMER

Bishop of The Cathedral of Fresh Fire, Inc.

Bishop Emma Loretta Curry Creamer of Wilmington, DE was born September 6, 1939 in the railroad town of Altoona (Blair County), Pennsylvania.  Her life’s journey ended on Good Friday, April 10, 2020, in her beautiful home in Wilmington, surrounded by her family and loved ones.  In the time that we were blessed to have this angel here on earth, she inspired countless men, women and children in the faith until her final days.

1963, she was united in Holy Matrimony with Leon Creamer of Wilmington, DE.  They had three children, Yarah, Le’Andre and Helena.  While her three children were yet toddlers, Bishop Creamer traveled and sang professionally as a backup singer with Shirley Caesar and recorded with Dorothy Norwood, The Roger Robert Singers, the Gospel All stars, James Davis & the Cloud-Davis Specials and finally her own group, The Emma Creamer Singers.

God favored Bishop Creamer with an all-inclusive free trip to Israel in 1988, which fulfilled a lifelong dream. Upon her return, she expressed how the Bible came alive as she physically walked and relived the high events of Jesus, such as: a boat ride on the Sea of Galilee; visit to Old Jerusalem; visit to the Wailing Wall; took Communion in the Upper Room; walked through the Garden of Gethsemane and the Garden Tomb of Jesus; was baptized in the Jordan River and was blessed by the Bible teaching on spots like the Mount of Transfiguration and so much more. After which Bishop Creamer received her Attestation of Pilgrimage by the Mayor of Jerusalem. This experience changed the power of her preaching!

By the inspiration and direction of the Holy Ghost, she publicly accepted, acknowledged and made full proof of her call as Pastor by being ordained as an Elder in 1991 by Archbishop Jesse Delano Ellis II, founder and presiding Prelate of the Pentecostal Churches of Christ. Within a year she was appointed Overseer in The United Pentecostal Churches of Christ.  In 1994, she was led to establish The Cathedral of Fresh Fire, Inc. with the main objective to, “Let the Fresh Fire of the Holy Ghost illuminate the darkness of sin, eliminate the power of Satan and eradicate coldness with the warmth of the love of Christ.”

Bishop Creamer’s ministry also birthed multiple theatrical/musical productions:  “Over in Glory Land,” 1994; “The Blood,” 2003, the first gospel play to sell out the Grand Opera House, Wilmington’s largest performing arts venue, and “Behold The Lamb,” 2010.  Bishop Creamer's musical releases included, “Move with the Spirit,” 1973; “There’s Nothing as Precious as Jesus,” 1975; Yes, Lord,” 1976; “Call on Jesus,” 1983; “Don’t Stop Praying,” 1998;  “CHOSEN,” 2003; and “Thy Word is all that Matters,” 2005.  Many publications including her book, “My Amazing Journey of Faith," 2013, were biographical and inspirational.

Under the leadership of Bishop Creamer, as the Pastor of CFF, with the help of God and concerned people, made a remarkable difference in the lives of the people of the formerly blighted Riverside Community. People of all ages were empowered by “Pastor Creamer” as she was known for her love for all people, freely shared her ministry without regard to race, color, religious creed, disability, ancestry, national origin, age or sex. Bishop Creamer helped them rise above their circumstances and environments to become productive, employed, community advocates and viable members of society. Drug addicts and ex-cons became Deacons and prostitutes became Missionaries. Pastor Creamer also touched thousands of souls through her weekly “Wings of Healing” local telecast and conducted outdoor baptism services at public pools before hundreds of witnesses in the local community. Bishop Creamer’s ministry became a resource of hope across the Metropolitan Wilmington community, Chester, PA, New Jersey and Maryland.

Over the life of her ministry, Bishop Creamer received numerous awards, honors and proclamations including:  The Key to the City of Wilmington, from Mayor Thomas C. Maloney (1974), a proclamation from the City of Wilmington as an outstanding gospel singer, The Wilmington Award from Mayor James Sills (2006) for her contributions in the faith-based initiatives, and a nomination to Who’s Who Among Great American Preachers (2005). In 2009, she was given proclamations of acknowledgement of community contributions from United States Vice President Joseph R. Biden, Jr., United States Senator Edward E. Kaufman (DE), Governor Jack A. Markell, Lieutenant Governor Matthew Denn and Mayor of City of Wilmington James M. Baker.  In 2015, State Senator Margaret Rose Henry (2nd District), issued a proclamation in honor of her elevation to Bishop.

Bishop Creamer established a charter campus of The Chesapeake Bible College & Seminary in 2003 and in 2005 was given an honorary doctorate in Church & Ministry Leadership and Pastoral Counseling.  In November 2012,

Bishop Creamer and her parishioners achieved the full payment of the mortgage on The Cathedral of Fresh Fire building and celebrated with a mortgage burning service in April 2013.

On August 8, 2015, Overseer Creamer was consecrated to the honorable position of Bishop at the anointed gathering of The Pentecostal Churches of Christ National Holy Convocation in Cleveland, OH, by Presiding Bishop J. Delano Ellis II.  Since her retirement in 2015, God has continued to manifest Himself to and through the ministry of The Cathedral Of Fresh Fire, a remarkable legacy of Bishop Emma L. Creamer.  Anyone entering the building can feel, see and know that all the glory belongs to God and the “Fire Continues to Burn”.

Although we celebrated Bishop Creamer’s 80th birthday in September 2019, she was honored at a grand “80/50” Birthday Celebration, shared with her daughter Pastor Helena M. Creamer, on December 6, 2019.  The affair concluded with a special moment for all when she spoke what would become her final blessing over her family and loved ones gathered:

“I’m very happy in my soul.

I thank God for you all.

Continue to love the Lord.

Continue to talk to Him.

Continue to be close to Him.

Don’t leave Him alone,

Stand by Him.  Always be there, ‘cause

He’s gonna always be there for you.

God bless you!

If it were possible to summarize Bishop Creamer’s years of formal ministry and pastorate, she might tell you that,

“You better see this thing!”

Then this great leader and woman of God would surely say what King David said in Psalm 71:17, 18:

O God, you have taught me from my youth; And to this day I declare Your wondrous works.  Now also when I am old and gray headed, O God do not forsake me, until I declare Your Strength to this generation, Your Power to everyone who is to come.”

Bishop Creamer leaves to cherish her legacy, Leon Creamer; her three children, Yarah Gilbert (Charles), Le’Andre Creamer and Pastor Helena M. Creamer; five grandchildren, Milana Gilbert, Nasia Creamer, Malcolm Gilbert, Marcus Gilbert and Neiko Creamer; a daughter in love, Tawana Creamer, two sisters, Twylia Edwards and Faye Gilbert; three godchildren, Pastor Tammy Lindsay, Candace Reason and Dena (LeMon) Bass; four long time devoted sister/friends, Elder Carolyn Martin-Pettaway and Elder Delnora Roberts; Joan (Russ) Lewis, Helen Williams; a multitude of spiritual sons and daughters and a host of other relatives, friends, colleagues, Community Leaders and her loving church family of The Cathedral of Fresh Fire, Inc.

Ralph H Davis

Obituary

Ralph H. Davis, (affectionately known as "Chucky" or "Chuck") was born February 17, 1962 in Wilmington, Delaware to Ralph F. Davis and Virginia Gibbs Johnson.

He departed this life on Saturday, September 28, 2013 while vacationing with his wife, Dannette, and family in Orlando, Florida.

Chucky graduated from William Penn High School in 1980. Immediately upon graduation he enlisted into the United States Army. To his disappointment and dismay, within a short time of enlisting, he received a Medical Discharge from the Army at age 18. However, being a very positive and determined individual, this did not deter him from his thirst for knowledge and his quest to further his education. He enrolled in the Delaware Technical and Community College in Dover, Delaware and became a computer technician for the Digital Corporation.

He loved all aspects of computer technology and formed his own computer business in the Baltimore, Maryland area which he maintained until his health failed.

Chucky met his wife, Dannette Ivy, in Dover, Delaware and after a whirlwind courtship, they were married on March 24, 1984 . From this union three precious children were born; Jade, Jasmine and Jordan.

Ralph became a dedicated member of the Jehovah's Witness Faith and you seldom had a conversation with him when he was not talking about his faith in Jehovah and encouraging you to discuss the Bible with him. Like anything he became involved in, he sought to know as much as he could find about it, so he was very well versed in his biblical knowledge.

Chucky had a number of hobbies. He enjoyed sports and played basketball and football for Community Leagues in addition to playing for William Penn High School. He also loved playing and performing musically. He mastered the bass guitar and played in a band with his friend, Andre' and played with bands in the Baltimore area. He was also a fisherman at heart and spent many hours on the water, sometimes alone. He also collected comic books.

Chucky was a family person. His wife, children and grandchildren were the love of his life. He also maintained a very close bond with his Mom, Dad and brother, Rod and family, and the extended family. He was a big tease and jokester and had no problem in giving you his opinion on any subject. Family members could always count on a call from Chucky at any time, just out of the blue because "he was thinking about you". He loved to come home for the Annual Dunleith Day festivities and the Jazz Festival here in Wilmington, having attended the Jazz Festival just this past June.

Chucky also had a very serious and conscientious side. Whenever we needed to know something about computers, Chuck was our "go-to" man. He could walk you through any computer glitch you might have had. Chucky was the lead person in doing the stock analyses when we formed our "FAB" (Family About Business) Investment Club. He also possessed skills in repairing vehicles, lawn mowers, building cabinets, additions, and was just an all-around handy man. He happily shared these skills with his son, Jordan.

Obituary

Umar Hassan-El (Lewis Elliot Coffield) was born on March 27,1947, in Wilmington, Delaware to the late James E. Coffield, Sr. and the late Lolita Washington. He lived on the west side of Wilmington most of his life where he was a pillar in the community. Allah called Umar back to Himself on Thursday, December 10, 2020.

Umar Khalif Hassan-El

Umar was a faithful follower of the religion of AL Islam and was the assistant Imam at the Muslim Center of Wilmington, Inc., Masjid AL-Kauthar.

Butchie, as he was called by many who knew him in his early years of his life, attended Mary C.I. Williams Elementary School, Bayard Middle School, and graduated from Brown Vocational Technical High School in 1965. He served in the Vietnam War and safely returned home with more vigor than ever to fight injustice.

The Black Man's Development Center was one of the first organizations he immersed himself in after the war. He was an avid reader of anything related to black culture and religion and as a result, he had an extensive library that included various topics.

Family gatherings and public speaking were two of his most treasured expressions of his authentic self. Back in the day, he was a member of the local singing sensation group, "The Matadors." They sang all over Wilmington crooning the popular hits and dazzling the crowds with their voices. The Matadors were known to be one of the best singing groups in Wilmington at the time.

Umar was attracted to the opportunity to fight for injustice and did so for over 45 years. The aspects of life that were most important to him were visiting prisons, meeting with politicians, praying with religious leaders of all faiths, mentoring the youth, being an entrepreneur, traveling to various countries to conduct international trade business, working as a Longshoreman, representing disenfranchised families who resided on the west side of Wilmington, living a life with purpose, teaching others of their heritage and self-worth, loving his family and most of all cherishing the memory of his late beloved wife, Saduqah.

Umar is survived by a large biological and surrogate family to reverence his memory. He leaves his love, wisdom, and knowledge to his children: Belinda Ross-Butler, Sadaqah Hassan-El, Jamillah Hassan El-Wise, Tanya Lea, Ismai'l Hassan-El, and Akbar Hassan-El.

Umar's legacy will live on through his remaining 6 children, 31 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; 1 sister Elder Barbara Crummel; one brother, Rev. James Coffield, Jr.; longtime and devoted friends: Waali Qaadir Bey, Muhammad Salaam Hassan-El, Faheem Akil, and Randy Corbin.

He was preceded in death by his wife Saduqah Hassan-El; son Darius Brown; father, James Coffield, Sr.; mothers, Lolita Washington and Emma Coffield; brothers, Clifton Matthews, Robert Matthews, and Ralph Matthews; and sister, Elizabeth Parker..

Umar was well loved by many and will truly be missed by all who knew him. He will never be forgotten.
